The EU chemicals policy REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals) came into effect on June 1st 2007.
In principle the legislation applies to all chemicals that are manufactured or
imported into the EU, for industrial purposes or domestic use.

Johnson Matthey is prepared and fully supportive of REACH,
which has a principle aim of improving the protection of human health and
the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.
REACH places greater responsibility on industry to manage the risks that
chemicals may pose to health and the environment

The initial stage of REACH focuses on the pre-registration of substances,
industry had until November 2008 to complete this.

Going forward REACH will require greater cooperation between customers and suppliers.
